two months in review

It has been a cold spring for us.  Today maybe had a high of 65, and it rained off and on.  I am ready for warmer weather.

In April we took a flatlands tour.  We visited some good friends in Kansas City.  Then headed east for a week in Ohio.  Luke and Kai had a great time playing with their cousins.  After that we went to Aaron's mom's house for a few days and then my dad's house.  We feel so blessed to have family that took time out of their busy schedules to spend it with us.

Kai has started saying a lot more words in the last two months, and he does a little more signing.  We think maybe he was waiting until he could pronounce the words to do signing.  Some of his words now are bi (bike), car, more (signs this one), and all gone/done (signs this one too).  He loves to imitate Luke.  He is very good at climbing and has figured out how to climb out of his crib.  Last night we converted his crib to a toddler bed.  Unfortunately, the design for the toddler bed is not a good one and he fell out 3 times last night.  Tonight we put him in Luke's toddler bed.  We are hoping Luke does not fall out of Kai's toddler bed. Luke likes to sleep in the same room as Kai.

Luke has one more day of preschool left.  Next week, he will start a swimming class for two weeks.  The week after that ends, he is going to a vacation bible school program.  Then we have a few weeks of nothing.  I hope he doesn't drive me crazy. We will probably go to the zoo a lot during that time.

Happy Birthday Luke!

Luke turned 4 years old yesterday!  He had a small party with his best friend and his best friend's mom and dad per his request.  We just had pizza and cake.  The kids played inside at the house.  We were planning on renting a bounce house, but had to cancel due to rain.  It was a rainy morning and has been a very rainy week and month.

Kai was grumpy yesterday.  I don't know if he understood it was Luke's special day and was jealous or he was disappointed that it was raining again since I can't remember when we haven't had some sort of rain.  No rain expected today happy

Presents (shirt and movie).  He is blessed to have family and friends who want to celebrate his birthday!

The last time Kai sat in the swing...He was getting to the point where I thought he was going to break it and he was at the weight limit.

It has been awhile since I have updated. Since October, we had a vacation in Hawaii, family over for Thanksgiving, and a visit to the flat lands for Christmas.

Luke enjoys going to preschool twice a week. He also likes gymnastics class where they jump, hang, swing, and all sorts of different physical activities. In January we started music class. He asks a lot of questions these days. He always wants to know why. When he was little I avoided using why with him hoping to avoid this stage. He usually says "...for?" He loves to play outside on his bike or scooter or with his excavator or dump trucks.

Kai has many opinions these days and will let you know when he disapproves. He only has a few words (mommy, daddy, uh-ah (uh-oh), bye bye, noise for animals, and I think he says mine). He shakes his head for no. He loves to be outside. He is always bringing us his shoes. He likes "riding" the trike (he just pushes with his feet on the ground), pushing the umbrella stroller or bubble lawn mower. Lately he has been copying Luke a lot.   This last week he has started refusing his pacifier.  At the moment, it looks like he will stop on his own.  He had 3 of his 4 molars come in the last month.  The pacifier seems to help with teething.

We didn't dress up much for Halloween this year.  Luke dressed up to trick-or-treat at the mall.  He didn't want to dress up, but was willing to for candy.  We only lasted about 25 minutes at the mall.  It was much too crowded (and loud) for pleasure.  Although Luke really enjoyed getting candy.  I enjoyed meeting up with a few friends.

I put Kai in his monkey costume this evening for pictures.  Again we had to bribe Luke with candy to put his costume on.

October update

More than 2 months have passed since I last updated. Kai is walking quickly these days.  He loves to play with cars and trains especially with his brother.  When he sees the camera, he gives us a cheesy smile like in the pictures below.

Grandpa came to visit.  One day we took a train ride.  Luke loves to ride the train.  Luke is going to preschool 2 mornings a week.  He loves going.  He also enjoys his soccer and gymnastic classes.

When your mom is a civil engineer, her idea of an art project is making a bridge or building out of marshmallows and toothpicks.  Dad thinks it is fun too.
